Alistair is a leader in the energy and regulated utilities sector and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from his thirty plus years in the industry. For ten years he served as Chief Executive of Ofgem (2003-2013). While at Ofgem, Alistair led the creation of the regulatory structures for both the offshore wind industry and the total revision of the onshore network regulatory regime (“RIIO”).
Alistair was a NED and member of the Audit Committee at Scottish Water Ltd. Between 2018 -2020, he was an Independent NED at Thames Water Utilities Ltd where he was also the Chair of the Planning & Strategy Committee.
Alistair is a senior associate of URA, working on a part time basis.

– 2013–2018: Partner and Chairman – UK Power & Utilities Practice at KPMG LLP London. Built a financially and reputationally successful business at KPMG. Gave The William Pitt Lecture at Cambridge University 2014 and keynote speaker at Oxford and New York Universities on regulation. Major contracts in UK, India, Australia (The PREMO model for State of Victoria) and Hong Kong ( advise on market liberalisation).
– 2003-2013: CEO of OFGEM* (GB Energy Regulator) – Led highly complex 1000 strong organisation ( London and Glasgow)for ten years. Major landmarks: Totally re-writing regulatory rules with new focus on stakeholder engagement and consumer co-operation (called RIIO – replacing the RPI-X approach set up in 1983), major corporate de-merger of the gas networks business, leading thinking on security of supply and simplifying retail markets. Created a new company(Ofgem E-Serve) to run £5-10bn subsidy monies. Set up Offshore( called OFTO) regime using tender/auction process.
– 2003-13: Chair of Joint Regulators Council, Chair of E3C (reporting to COBRA on security of supply) and Chair of Large Industrial Energy Users Group
